Data Driven Sites

HTML (hyper text markup language) is a computer language that describes how text and graphics should display online, but it doesn't have the ability to create dynamic interactive web sites. For that, programming languages are needed. There are many programming languages that may be used to develop a database-driven web site. Web developers at Hopkins use whichever programming language best meets the needs of their particular sites. If you are interested in building a database-driven web site, refer to your web site service provider to find out which database-driven applications (ColdFusion, ASP, etc.) its server supports.

For more information on programming languages, see:

Before beginning any Johns Hopkins Institutions web project, please contact the appropriate office in your area for assistance with guidelines, standards or existing programs.

If there is any doubt about the methods for collecting, storing, or displaying sensitive information on web sites, the Johns Hopkins legal departments (410-516-8128) should be contacted for a definitive answer about Hopkins' liability and responsibility.
